August Cover Article
A letter from the editor.
A look back on July
Through July we had a busy posting schedule full of great stories from RPI alumni. Those stories and technical pieces let each author explore something in their domain in a new way. We had a historical review of how amyloid got its name, a deep dive into how humans and machines will work together, perspectives on science communication from a professor and a science illustrator, and Becca continued her series on investigating the future collaboration of PhD’s and MD’s. So far July has been our most popular month, and we are hard at work putting together a new batch of stories.
We are always looking for more writers and ideas. This month I went to the regional Google Developers Group in the Hudson Valley to meet more people and continue spreading the word about JUNC. There were several interesting talks about AI use for project use and research. These examples will likely show up in future articles. Please reach out if you are interested in contributing! August in upstate NY at a research university
August is here in the North East, a classically volatile summer punctuated by torrential thunderstorms, heat waves, and now suddenly chilly nights. On the RPI campus it’s rather dull and quiet with only a few undergraduate student milling about on campus. The research centers on campus are still humming away, literally, the sound of the exhaust fans running is overwhelming on this side of campus. I like to do a lap around campus to break up a day in the lab pipetting or writing in my office.
Below is the view where I catch the sunset most days in the winter, but summertime means I still get extra light even when leaving late. I planned on featuring more photos from the lab to show what the day to day looks like. However this month my camera roll was full of cell counts, sticky notes, and media recipes.
Thank you for reading!
Catch up next week for the next regular article from JUNC.
